No modeling business

Today I watched, as I often do ballet videos on youtube. Anaheim ballet had to videos that truly inspired me. One with Maria Kochetkova and one with Misty Copeland. Maria Kochetkova said "Ballet isn't a modeling business", and this I think is so beautiful. You don't need to be the perfect height, with long limbs, arched feet, no hips and boobs. No! You just need the will and the passion! Everybody can be perfect in their own way. Everybody can dance. The only things you need, is a body and a willing to work and love it.
   If people tell you, you are to short, push past it. If people tell you, you are to big, push past it. Prove them wrong. Show them you can do it.

Etudes

Etudes is one of my all time favorite ballets. It's made by Harald Lander, a dane (like me). I have seen the Royal Danish Ballet perform it so very many times. I also saw it in Russia, some years ago, but I really thought the danes were the best maybe it's just because I'm danish, but I think seeing the people dance something, who have learned it from the original dancers is the best. It's like seeing a Balanchine ballet danced by New York City Ballet's dancers.

Being busy

I am so sorry I havn't posted much these past couples of weeks. I have been very busy with end-of.year performance, final exams and then I have been ill. Sometimes I think it is hard to do all the things you have to and want to, when you not only just have school, like many of my friends, who think it is hard just getting past that, I also have ballet many hours a week, but I love it, and it drives and motivates me to do my best at everything, even though it is hard sometimes. Here at home we are also renovating the top 2 floors of our house, so we are living in a pile of dust, with constructionworkers, tools and what not.... Looking forwards to when it's done, and school is out!

Age is just a number!

Today is my birthday, yaay! I never understand the people who are so eager to grow up. Everybody will grow up, and it'll come all by itself, so why not just be who you are. Because when you finally are old, you'll wish you where young again, no wrinkles no grey hairs. I think you are beautiful at every age, old, young, child. Everything has their beauty. When you are a child you are a innocent, chubby cutiepie, when you are a teen you are developping, when you are an adult, you have one of the best jobs in the world, being a parent, when you are old, you have a life behind you, where you have done things you are proud of.

Ways to make your day a better, happier day!

5 ways to make your day happier:
Smile at people. If you smile to the world, the world will smile to you!
Give compliments. If you teel people nice things, it will boost you own happiness.
Do things you like. Hang out with friends, take balletclass, watch a good movie, anything you like. It'll make you day brighter.
Laugh! Laugh with your friends, at your mistakes, at anything appropriate.
Look at the bright side of life. If you have homework it makes you smarter, if it is rainy it'll make the plants happy, if you sick, you can stay on the couch, if your sad, better ties will come.

Jewels

Today we started rehearsing Rubies, by George Balanchine. I love it, and have danced some years now. I'm in the corps and also have a pas de trois with loads of pirouettes and other turns. When Balanchine created "Jewels", each act, or three jewel: Emeralds, Rubies and Dimonds symbolised a periode in his life. I think it is a wonderful thing, that you can tell you lifestory, through dance!

Stop judging, start loving!

Today I was at the playground with my four year old sister! We played in the sandbox, and then I went and sat on a bench, and a little girl came over to my sister. They started playing, and soon they were practically best friends, and making planes to play in preschool tomorrow. And it made me think: Small children doesn't judge each other. They won't care if their friend is black or white, boy or girl, how their past was, if they believe in Jesus or not! I wish it wasn't just small kids who did this. I wish everybody could stop judging each other, and just love each other and what they stand for! It would really make the world a better place... But is it possible.... It is certainly hard to believe it when you read the news paper, and the thing they always write about is crime, hate, racism and war! Stop judging, start loving! That would solve a lot of problems!

The Four Temperaments

We are having a end-of-year-show in the start of june, and therefore I have had rehearsal all day. I am dancing a lot of things, but today it was for The Four Temperaments. It is one of my absolut favorite ballet!! I am dancing the sanguinic pas de deux and solo. I love it! I'm also dancing the devils dance and of course the finale.

Polka dot umbrellas!

Today is a rainy day. I actually like rain. It rinses of all the dirt and bad things, and replaces it with fresh and new things. I love walking in the rain under my polka dot umbrella, listing to french songs and seeing small kids jumping in puddels. It is wonderful! It rinses the soul!

Back again

So sorry I have posted anyting for a loooooong time!! I've been so busy with school work, rehearsals and performances. I have, since my last update, danced at The Royal Danish Theater in Copenhagen. It was fantastic! The feeling of finally showing what you have been working hard for, to an audience is wonderful.

   Today at balletclass, we did a grand allegro across the floor, and when I was doing it, it felt like I was really dancing. Not training, not trying to dance, but dancing. I forgot time and space, and when I landed after the last grand jété, I could my teacher was really pleased with it, just by the look on her face. She looked at me like she knew just how I had felt. And she told me it was beautiful, and she estremly rarely says anything like that. This might sound "ego-like", but as I have metioned before, it is not egoistic to be proud of yourself...

Valentine's Day!

As everybody knows, today is valentines day! The day, we think about love, chocolates, roses and pink hearts. Many also think about being alone, with out a boy/girlfriend. All those people thinking they'll be alone forever: STOP! You won't! Out in the world somewhere, is a wonderful and smart person. A person you'll love, and who will love you. A person who will respect you, care for you. God is just waiting for the right moment to show him/her to you! You may see all the couples walking hand in hand, just wait! Someday it will be you, holding the hand of the most fantastic person you can ever imagine.

   But it is valentines day, you may say. It is special! You have to have a boy/girlfriend. No! What is so special about today? Nothing. It is just a normal, grey, boring tuesday. Really. The thing that makes it special is if you have someone special to share it with. And if you don't, then just wait, maybe next year, or the year after you will have that special one of your dreams to share 14. of january with! 

   And until then, you can just spend valentinesday, in thee couch, watching a romantic movie like Titanic, The Notebook, or Dirty Dancing, eating ice cream, thinking of how nice it is to be single and free, like me!

Be happy, you can just pretend that Valentine's day this year is cancelled because it is the 14.2.12 and 14-2-12=0!

Nothing to be afraid of!



When I were like 10, I had a little cameo, in a children dance series, on danish TV. I hate seeing the clip, because seeing yourself dance many years ago, but I always get happy, because I get proud of myself for improving ALOT! I Denmark the schools aren't divided after age, before you get to high school, so I went with alot of kids all different ages, and therefor all the small girls came (and stil do) up to me, totally shy and say something like "I saw you on tv...!". And once somebody even said "I wish to be like you, when I'm older.", and it just waaarms my heart! I know many small girls are to shy to say anything to a "big" girl, but why? They won't do anything. The only thing they can do is to be flattered and happy! Even if it is not a age difference, that doesn't make you speek to a person, JUST DO IT! Please! What could they do you? NOTHING, they'll only think you're nice.

"The look"

Today was the last class before our winterbreak. We are rehearsing three pieces to show at the Royal Danish Theater in march. We were dancing pretty good, but we were not together on the music, and our teacher kept telling us to be. Then the last few times we danced it everybody were like "OK! Lets do our VEEEERY best, and be all together now!". And then when we danced again it just felt so much better. And afterwards we all knew, that we had danced really well, and you could just see from the look on our teachers face, that she was really pleased and happy with us. She didn't say anything, but the look she gave.... it was amazing! I love how a look, can tell everything!

Sous le Ciel de Paris

Many of you probably can't speek french, but even though you can still enjoy this "typical french" song. It is by Edith Piaf, and is called "Sous le ciel de Paris" (English: Under the sky of Paris). 

    I love hearing french singing, even though I don't understand all the words (I've had french for 3 years in school, but I'm not fluent...Yet!) I think that to hear music isn't to understand the words, but to feel the music itself!!

A cheap price

Sorry I havn't posted in a while ;) I have been really busy with school and ballet. It is often quite hard to get my homework done when I have class/rehearsal. And I have to stay up late to finish all my things. But I don't really mind. When I get so much joy from ballet, I think it is okay, that I have to pay in some way. And it is fine with me to pay with putting in an extra effort on my homework, blisters and a bit of pain. I actually think that it is cheap! Homework gets done, blisters and pain go away, but my joy of dance, never does!

BE YOURSELF

I love wearing high-waisted knee-length skirts, a big flower in my hair, and it is almost always in a bun. I listen to classical music and jazz. We have no TV, and I go to the theater, more than I go to the movies. Many people I know say that I'm old fashioned. I say that I'm me. I don't care what other people think of me, as long as I'm happy with myself. Don't think about what other people will think of you, just do what you feel like, dress so you feel beautiful, live so you love it!

Family

I love weekends! They are just a wonderful thing! This weekend I'm spending most of saturday at rehearsals, but sunday my whole family and me are going iceskating. I love to do thing together with my family. On the normal days, my little brother has soccer, I go to balletclass, we both have school, mom and dad gots work, and my littlesister goes to kindergarden. So we don't have much time together, but we always try to eat dinner and drink tea in the evening together. In the weekends it's different. We are all home, and can relax and have fun with each other. I love my family so much and are very grateful for it. I know that some people has lost a loved one, or is in other ways not abled to spend time with their whole family. I just wish they could be as lucky as me, and have a family of their own. I wish they could feel the happiness and warmth I feel, when being with my family. And I know, someday they will!

More than Tchaikovsky!

Today at ballet class, we started rehearsing a new dance to the song Sexy Silk by Jessie J. It is really cool, and I love it. Last year we did something to Eminems "Lose Yourself", and the year before to "It don'r mean a thing" by Ella Fitzgerald. All the dances were great. And I love that it is still ballet, even though it isn't danced to a Tchaikovski symphonie! All none-ballet-knowers would never think that you caould dance ballet to that. And it just goes to show you:
Ballet is more than Swanlake and pink ribbons!

Fire

Yesterday/evening, the appartment on the other sde of my house was burning. Everybody was really scared, and many people didn't have a place to sleep, that night. I really hope that they all had families to go to. It was an old, mentally ill lady, who had started the fire. Many people had tried to get the government to take care of her, but hey said it was to expensive, because in Denmark we have the economical crises as well as all over the world. And it just goes to show you, they could have prevented that fire, if they had helped her.
   Luckly noone was hurt!

I really wish, than instead of sending danes out to war, and throw bombes, Denmark could help the weak people.

Rehearsal tips and tricks

Today I have reheasals from 12.30 - 17.00, so it's gonna be a long day at a studio. Here are my tips and tricks for rehearsals:


1. Remember to bring legwarmers, socks and sweaters, so you have something to you warm, while you do all the waiting at rehearsals.


2. Bring food!!! Energibars, nuts or fruit are the best, because they give energi, without making you feel bloated, and they are quick to eat.


3. Don't let your things lying in the studio. Your teacher needs to se it as a stage, and can't if bags, and legwarmers are all over.


4. BE ON TIME!


5. Remeber sewing kit, band-aids and nailclippers if you are dancing on pointe.

Negative and positiv

Today I had kind of a bad day. School wasn't the most fun, it rained, was cold and I forgot my bag at my balletschool, and my french homework for tomorrow was in it. Every time, when I have had a bad day, I always try to find 3 positiv thing about the day. Because when you think of the positivs, all the negativ fades away. You should try it ;)

The good sides and bad sides

When you dance ballet, there are good sides and "bad" sides. The good sides would take me 78 years to write all of them.
   Every year I miss out on going skiing one week in Norway, because I have I performance at the Royal Danish Theater, that week. My toes are nothing but blisters, blood, and bruised nails. I have not got time for much else than ballet and school. Much of my time is spent at the studio, or at home, sowing pointeshoes.
    To people who doesn't dance ballet, this sounds awful, but to me, is is just life. I'm used to the pain, the sweat, the giving up things "because I have class". And you know what? I love it. Getting to dance, is worth it. Getting to do what I love. Every single time a walk in to the studio, I feel at home. It is where I belong. Where I make my happiness.

The bad sides, are the good sides.

The Turning Point

If you are ever bored, watch "The Turning Point", from 1977.It is a lovely movie about ballet, love, family and growing up. And none other than MIKHAIL BARYSHNIKOV is in it (excuse my obession ;) ) I've watched it many times, and I'm not tired of it.

Tell them something sweet!

When I was in Barcelona, Spain, with my class, in the fall, me and my friend were in this little souvenirshop. I was wearing my hair in a twisted bun, with a flower, and as I was walking out of the shop, a girl came over to me, and said in really bad english "I'm sorry, but your hair looks really cool!" and then she stared down, and quickly walked away. It was so sweet of her! To come up to a complete stranger and tell them something nice. Not many people do that. And I really don't know why? You could almost make someones day, with just a few words. And why be shy? You are telling them something nice!
   Things so small as telling people they look nice, can make a big difference in someones day!!

Baryshnikov obession

This video is Mikhail Baryshnikov jumping/flying around in a studio. He just jumps so extremly high, I can't understand it. I'm speechless. Yes I known I have a Baryshnikov-obession, but he is just fantastic!!!

Back to school

Today was my first day back at school after the holidays. Yeaterday, I was like "I would loove to have some more vacation, I don't wanna go to school...", and in the morning it was really hard to get up, but once I got over to the school, and saw all my friends, it wasn't bad, and school wasnøt that bad either, actually I really like school ;)

But all in all, just remember to look positive on things, and almost always things are not as bad as they seem ;)

Better than yourself

Mikhail Baryshnikov is one of my absolut favorite dancers. The way he jumps, or should I say fly, is just AMAZING. And at the same time, he just has that little extra spark in his eye, not many others have. My ballet teacher trained in the same studio with him, when I heard it I was like "woooow....!!", if you breathed in the same air as Baryshnikov, and I breathed in the same as you... Then I breathed in the same as Baryshnikov, kind of...

Mikhail Baryshnikov once said: "I don't try to dance better than anyone else, I only try to dance better than myself.". I love this quote. He doesn't care how good other people are, he only cares about becoming a better and better dancer. And lets face it, BARYSHNIKOV IS THE BEST!
   I think everybody should try and think like Baryshnikov, not only in dance, but in life. Being jealous of others, or wanting to be better than them never makes you better, but wanting to be better than yourself drives you, and gives you motivation.

I hope that you all can be better than yourself, even though you already are perfect the way God made you,

What is art?

I have always wondered what art is. Two lines and a dot, is art, if Picasso painted it, but if I painted it, it nothing. Why is ballet an artform and not a sport? Maybe it's because ballet is artificial. You do the unatural with your body.
   Art is only there to show it to people. Dance is a form of entertainment. Art has no use in "real life". Art is useless. Perhaps that is the definetion of art: Something useless, that gives pleassur to other people, and is extremly hard to make.... I really don't know. 
   Dancers create art with their bodys, painters with a brush, musicians with sheet music. Art can be created by anything. But why is not everything art then??

New years resolutions

New years resolutions are a good thing. They make you try to reach some goals, and do the things even better. My resolutiones are:

- Eat so I'm proud of it.

- Drink 6 glasses of water each day.

- Do my streching routine every morning.

Happy newyear!

Happy new year everybody!! May this be the best year in your life, so far!
If this year hasn't been so great, if you have been sad, lost loved once, broken up or anything else, I wish for you that next year will be better. Next year things will change. And happiness will come again. Remeber, getting hurt, only makes us stronger, and you can always make the best of it. When it seems like everything is dark, and every door is closed, there will always be a window open, if you look hard enough.
   Everybody, also you, deserve to be told they're beautiful, wonderful, talented and loved, and if no-one told you this year, I will: You are the most talented, wonderful person! You are beautiful, and I love you! Even though I don't know you I can still love you, and care for you, and I really do.
   If you don't like what you see in the mirror, or don't like yourself, REMEBER: God made you this way, because you're perfect. When you were little, you didn't care about what people thought of you. You would were your super-man outfit to the store, and didn't care anout what people thought. Remeber that? Don't care about what other people think!
